Surface Variation in an Electric Kiln: When firing in an electric kiln we do not have the variables associated with atmospheric firing. To increase surface variation in an electric kiln, I introduce variables at different stages of the making cycle, one way being using wild soils.
Wild Soils: For the purpose of my research, I use the term ‘wild soils’ to refer to any naturally occurring ceramic material irrespective of its composition and qualities. In other words, soil collected anywhere from the side of a hill, a road cut or simply from one’s backyard.
